Secure Automotive
As a result of counterfeiting in the automotive aftermarket, manufacturers of OEM parts are beset by lost revenues, lost profits, lost jobs, and lost consumer confidence. The numbers are staggering:
- The International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition puts revenue losses to U.S. trademark holders at $200 billion per year.
- According to the Federal Trade Commission, counterfeiting costs the global automotive parts industry $12 billion a year; $3 billion of that total is in the United States.
- A National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) study, commissioned by the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA), said counterfeit auto parts constitute over 37% of the total market size of Indian aftermarket parts.
SSI's patented ESC™ System provides automotive aftermarket participants true unit-level track and trace for their products. SSI customizes the information that is important to the manufacturer and its trading partners (i.e., serial number, expiration date and warranty information) and utilizing globally recognized machine- readable symbologies and readily available off-the-shelf scanners, incorporates encryption technology to insure that packaging is secure and undeniably from the correct manufacturer.
Generating an electronic pedigree for individual serialized products will allow automotive aftermarket supply chain members to prevent counterfeit parts from entering the supply chain and realize the following benefits:
- Real Time Product Tracking and Tracing
- More Efficient Recalls
- Validation of Returns
- Increased Inventory Control
- Reduction of Diverted Products
- Elimination of Legacy Track, Trace, and Supply Chain Policing Costs
- Reduction of Litigation Risk
- Enhancement of Market Research Capabilities
- Reclaiming Market Share from Counterfeiters
