Company Overview

The counterfeit trade is reaching enormous proportions, crossing a myriad of products and industries ranging from consumer goods and consumables to more sophisticated products such as microprocessors, vehicles, and a host of other parts and finished goods. Much of the counterfeiting sources have been traced to the Far East, where technology and manufacturing have advanced to a level which often matches that of the brand manufacturer. In the retail space, a key element is the ability of counterfeiters to perfect a duplicate of product packages.

The counterfeit “industry” has become a global problem, with fake products posing serious risks to consumers, as well as economic consequences to companies including lost revenues, harm to brand image, and potential liability. While the need to find solutions has become intense, and despite the emergence of many product authentication technologies, heretofore no complete solution had been available with a reliable and cost-effective system capability to both assign products a “pedigree” and track their movement throughout the entire supply chain to prevent counterfeit intrusions.

Seeing this important need yet unfulfilled, SSI's challenge and mission became clear:

Develop an easy-to-implement, "user-simple" system to track and trace merchandise from its origin/manufacturing location through the supply chain, regardless of its path, to the point-of-sale, and do so in a way that leverages existing infrastructure; is cost efficient; and does not compromise production speeds.

SSI‘s patented technology offers a low-cost, reliable, electronic pedigree (e-pedigree) compliant, track and trace anti-counterfeiting solution applicable to multiple industries plagued by the problem. SSI's technology currently represents the only fully integrated track and trace method that includes the point-of-sale authentication to ensure the identity of branded products. The Company's proprietary advanced bar code technology is the base for its anti-counterfeiting system that provides and electronic product pedigree and a track and trace capability. Once the serialized, encrypted bar code is applied to a product label by the brand manufacturer the existing barcode infrastructure, universally familiar at both supply chain and retail locations, makes the technology solution practical, cost-effective, and easy to implement.

The industry chosen by SSI as its initial focus is pharmaceuticals. By most estimates, up to 10% of this $500+ billion industry has been penetrated by counterfeit drugs, with a much higher incidence in underdeveloped areas of the world. In the US, both federal and state governments are moving aggressively to pass new laws and implement regulations forcing pharmaceutical manufactures to adopt methods which comply with electronic pedigree requirements that enable track and trace of products from the time of brand packaging throughout the entire supply chain. SSI developed its anti-counterfeiting solution system in an active pharmaceutical packaging environment, and successfully met all the rigorous standards for speeds, gradeability, and accuracy. Furthermore, it has designed a highly secure data storage and management system which provides each drug manufacturer with its own dedicated space to meet product track and trace regulatory requirements, along with the ability to create other valuable data related to a more precise location of products in distribution.

  • Developed patented method to implement 100% track and trace methodology that has been continuously updated and refined with additional patents, extensions, and provisionals covering a wide range of solutions in a diverse group of industries.

  • Completed the design and patents pending of the architecture for a secure, scalable data warehouse equipped with multilevel firewalls and data privacy mechanisms that will maintain the confidentiality of information for each separate pharmaceutical stakeholder.

  • Has filed numerous patents involving both its technology and data base, beyond its business method patent which covers the entire linked system.

  • Established a Corporate Headquarters in Northern New Jersey providing for showrooms, uninterrupted data and voice transmission, and data backups.

  • Assembled a team of highly qualified engineers to lead and support its equipment and software requirements by enhancing development, coordinating customer installations, and providing customer service activities.

  • Added to its Board of Directors and Board of Advisors influential individuals with who have a history of being active in the area of pharmaceutical anti-counterfeiting and present a tremendous endorsement for SSI's technology. The list includes former Secretary of Homeland Security, Governor Tom Ridge, Senator Larry Pressler, and former Surgeon General nominee, Dr. Robert Kramer. In addition, SSI has recruited for its Healthcare board Peter Pitts, the former head of the FDA's communication department, Congressman Gil Gutknecht, the author of House legislation on counterfeit drugs, and Stephanie Aleong, a former Florida State prosecutor who has been active in the pursuit of counterfeiters.

  • As of June 2007, has made or scheduled presentations requested by over a dozen major pharmaceutical companies.

  • Obtained follow-on commitments for production site surveys that represent precursors to equipment installations.

  • Made first product line installation in July 2007.
